Hiring Process for Staff
Step 1: Apply
Every staff role at Texas A&M starts with an application through our Workday portal. Depending on the position, your application may require some or all of the following:
- Resume or CV
- Cover Letter (if applicable)
- Portfolio with examples of work (if applicable)

HROE partners with the Division of Faculty Affairs for faculty candidates. Prospective faculty members should visit Faculty Affairs to view and apply to openings.
Step 2: Discover Texas A&M

Step 3: Application Review - by a Human
Step 4: Interview & Assessment
Depending on the position, your interview process may include one or more of the following:
- Recruiting interview/Phone Screen: An introductory phone or video conversation with a member of our Talent Acquisition Team
- Hiring Manager interview: A deeper conversation, via video call or in-person, focused on your experience and fit for the role
- Panel Interview: A collobrative interview with team members

Step 6: Offer
- Verbal Offer: When a decision has been made, your supervisor or a member of our HR team will reach out to you directly by phone to extend a verbal offer. This conversation is your opportunity to ask questions about your compensation, benefits, and anticipated start date. We want you to feel confident and excited before you ever sign on the dotted line.
- Written offer: Following your verbal offer, you will receive an official written offer through Workday.
Step 7: Pre-Employment Steps
Before your start date, you’ll complete a few required steps.
- Background Check – First Advantage: All new employees are required to complete a background check, administered through our trusted partner, First Advantage. You will receive an email directly from First Advantage with instructions to complete your background check securely online
- Degree Verification – National Student Clearinghouse: For positions that require a specific level of education, Texas A&M verifies academic credentials through the National Student Clearinghouse. If this applies to your role, you will be notified during the HR paperwork and may be asked to provide supporting documentation.
- Drug Testing: Certain positions at Texas A&M require pre-employment drug testing. If your role requires this step, your HR contact will communicate details to you directly.
- HR Paperwork Content: Your onboarding HR paperwork will be coordinated with the support of your HR contact. Here’s what to expect:
- Prospective Hire Form - Capture key personal and employment information to begin your official record at Texas A&M.
- Form I-9 & E-Verify - Federal requirement to verify your idenity and authorization to work in the United States at Texas A&M. This process begins ahead of your start date. You will receive an email from our partner Perfect Compliance with a link to complete Section 1 of your Form I-9 securely online. Section 2 of your Form I-9 is completed in the presence of a HR Professional on your start date.
- NetID Creation - Your NetID is your gateway to Texas A&M’s systems, email, and digital resources.
Day One
Your first day is an exciting milestone, and we want it to go smoothly. Here's a quick checklist to help you prepare:
- Know where you’re going – Confirm your reporting location, building, and parking with your HR contact.
- Please review our I-9 process and ensure you bring your required documents.
- Set up your NetID and University Email
